Hello, my fellow bibliophiles! Here’s hoping you’re staying safe and healthy. Since the beginning of all this chaos, I’ve taken the opportunity to read a ton more, and this week I’ll be reviewing Leigh Perry’s A Skeleton in the Family.

First off, let’s give you the blurb as it’s easier, and I’m in a writer’s fog.

A Skeleton in the Family review is a humerus read.
A Skeleton in the Family is a humerus read;-)

The Blurb

A woman discovers the literal skeleton in her family’s closet in the first Family Skeleton Mystery!

Moving back into her parents’ house with her teenage daughter had not been Georgia Thackery’s “Plan A.” But when she got a job at the local college, it seemed the sensible thing to do. So she settled in and began reconnecting with old friends.

Including Sid. Sid is the Thackery family’s skeleton. He’s lived in the house as long as Georgia can remember, although no one, including Sid, knows exactly where he came from and how he came to be a skeleton.

Sid walks, he talks, he makes bad jokes, he tries to keep Georgia’s dog from considering him a snack.  And he manages to persuade Georgia to let him leave the house. But when she takes him to an anime convention—disguised as a skeleton, of course—he sees a woman who triggers memories of his past.

Now he is determined to find out how he died—with Georgia’s help.  But their investigation may uncover a killer who’s still alive and well and bad to the bone…

And Now the Review…

And there you have it! As far as blurbs go, this one’s pretty good. If the bold doesn’t get ya, then the mention of skeletons probably will. At least it did me. I’m a glutten for a good cozy mystery, but not just any kind. Nope, it’s gotta grab me by the whiskers and yank without mercy if I’m going to pick it up and read.

Note: I’m not a cat, and I don’t have whiskers, but it’s a great visual nonetheless.

Anywho, I’ve got to admit that I wasn’t sold on this one at first. I’m used to paranormal cozies, but those usually include witches and/or ghosts, but this one deviated a bit from that. How about a walking, talking skeleton? Any takers?

You see, a loved one bought me this book as a gift, and I tossed it to the back of the pile for a few weeks… Okay, a few months, but the point is that I wasn’t convinced. I read a few other books before I picked it up again and decided, “Why not.” After all, if I didn’t like the first few pages, because I give any book a few pages (more like a couple of chapters), then I’d gift it to someone else and move right along.

As I see it, life’s too short; so read only what you like.

And Here’s the Review…

And read I did. It hooked me from the first few pages, and I didn’t stop, except for food and sleep, until I finished it the next day. What a compelling read! From the well-developed characters, a charming skeleton, and a solid plot, this book will keep you guessing until the very end, which isn’t easy to do for most cozy readers. We’re a smart bunch, we are;-)

All in all, I’m craving the next one in the series, and I can’t wait to gobble it up. Lucky for me, she’s written a few more, and I have her to thank for my writer’s fog as I’ve got toothpicks to pry my eyes open. But never fear, write I shall, and you, my fellow bibliophiles, will love A Skeleton in the Family. Do yourselves a favor and download it today if you can.

And for the love of chocolate, please let me know about another cozy mystery series on Kindle Unlimited that this starving artist can read. Comment below or feel free to e-mail me at kduptonauthor@gmail.com. I’d greatly appreciate it! Also, if you’ve read A Skeleton in the Family by Leigh Perry, then let me know. How’d you like it?

From this bibliophile to you, I wish you all a safe and healthy week.

Cheers,

K.D.
